Here is a list of readers you can use with your children in addition to the SL reader packages. My children always needed wanted more so this is why I made this list. The DK readers (and DK in general) are by far my favorite books. They just seem to have more meat. I have made notes beside a few of them as to where you could use them with various cores. Since children read at varying speeds there are recommendations for the all the young cores.

For older children, check out our list of recommended Chapter Books. Click on a level above for a complete list of books by level or the pre-readers are listed below. Please read my note about the levels on each page. Thanks!

Pre-Readers

Note: Levels are decided by the publishers of the titles -- not me. Some books in a certain level maybe harder than others.

The following books are phonic readers sets that are widely popular. The first two I have used myself.

  Bob Books

Now I'm Reading This is a series very similar to the Bob Books above but in color.

  Step Into Reading

Choose your child's favorite character and enjoy reading together. There are lots of options out there for phonics reader sets. Below are just a few of the ones I have found. I have also seen Barbie, Care Bears, Scooby Doo, Dr. Maggie, and Bob the Builder.

Clifford's Fun Box Another set of phonetic readers.

  Dora The Explorer Phonics Set

  Cool Cats Phonic Fun

Sponge Bob Square Pants Phonics Readers

The books below have been labeled as pre-readers. Some have words, others are pictures only.

Babe The Sheep Pig - Oop's Pig!

The Berenstain Bears Ride the Thunderbolt

  The Silly Hot Dog

  Fishy Tales

  Colorful Days

  Garden Friends

  Party Fun
